Improv isn't fun anymore.

I go to these improv auditions and I think they can tell that I don't really want to be there. Don't get me wrong. I love improvising. I just hate the grotesque beast that is Chicago improv. The "pay to play" mentality makes me so angry. Everyone does it! Stop paying! Be a professional actor and make them pay you, or at least insist on breaking even!

I'm temping today for the first time in months and I thought I would take this opportunity to check in with the blogosphere. I really hate that word, how about bloggatronix? En E Way.

Today's temp adventure brings me to the 13th floor of a very "interesting" building. I think I'm in a Truman-Show-esque situation when I have days like this. I arrived to find 7 of the 8 elevators that access the 13th floor out of service. The one working elevator was an express going to the 13th floor only. Do de doo doo.

The woman I checked in with only had 15 minutes to brief me on the job before she had to go to court. She started off by telling me that "this floor has been thoroughly inspected and you are perfectly safe here" wha? huh? ok. Then she said something about demolitions and failed inspections and sabotage and basically told me that the first 12 floors of the building were recently vacated. In a hurry. But I'm totally safe on #13! It turns out that the office I'm in is the property management office, so if anything goes wrong people would call here. She said, it should be quiet, unless an elevator gets stuck or something silly like that then I should call security and they will take care of it.

Then she left. I was alone. 30 minutes later, the phone rings, its security. "Is Ms. X there? The express elevator to the 13th floor is stuck." "um... she told me that if that happens I'm supposed to call you." "I see." click.

So I'm alone. In a strange building. On the 13th floor. I was just informed that the only elevator out just got stuck. ...but I was told that I'm "perfectly safe here"
