Critics’ pick!
From Time-Out Chicago

SUPER(SIZE) HERO The media’s obsession with the weight fluctuations of skeletal starlets like Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan is merely one example of how riddled we are by unrealistic, unattainable body-image expectations. But the newly formed comic group FatCo is here to save the day with a dose of reality. Its first sketch revue, titled Fat in Flight, up for a short run at Donny’s Skybox, is an unashamed take on the large lifestyle. The show focuses both on the repercussions of society’s fat perceptions (for example, Southwest Airlines requiring “certain” people to buy two seats) and the cast’s real-life struggles to fit in. Individual scenes are funny, albeit fiercely personal—a woman who spent her youth duct-taping her waist; another who was dropped during a trust fall by peers afraid to catch her; a male actor who’s always cast as the fat friend, never the lead. It’s sometimes unsettling to see these situations play out, but they accurately reflect the world in which we all live. The Second City Skybox, 1608 N Wells St at North Ave (312-337-3992, http://www.secondcity.com/). Sat 16, 9pm. $12, students $10. See Comedy listings.—Steve Heisler
